Frequently Asked Questions
Want to know how to get the most of this site? Read below to learn how to get a quick start!
Please see the About Us page, and come back here for more information on how you can get involved. The purpose of this site was to keep it simple, secure, and outside of public scrutiny sites like FaceBook and ClassMates. It may not be as easy to use as those sites, but here, you can speak freely, knowing who you are talking to, and you also get one-on-one support with this site by calling me at 703-754-3403, anytime. That's me, Swen. If you are stuck, I can get you going. I promise, with far less snappy banter than you see here. Just give it a try--it's not real difficult. B is here:
between C and A. Yes, draft beer. You still with me, Speedy? The reason we set up the registration process was first and foremost, to prevent spambots and spiders from logging into the site and harvesting everyones email addresses and exposing them to all the joy that is spam. The second reason was to build a database that you can view (once you are registered) to get in touch with your classmates. If you wish to not share your phone number and/or mailing address with everyone, you can choose not to publish it during the registration process. If you ever wish to change any of the information, you can access it again by logging in and clicking on the USER CONTROL PANEL, select Edit Profile, make your changes and hit the Submit button at the bottom of the form. Yes, You can subscribe to forums and topics and you will get an email whenever there is an update. You will only get one email, until you log in and look at that topic or forum. If you don't log in, the system assumes you are aware and will not bother you again until you log in. Once you log in, the flag is cleared, and you will be notified of any new updates. To subcsribe to any forums or topics, look for the "Subscribe" link at the top of that forum or topic. You may also Unsubscribe using the same links. Forums are areas where certain topics are discussed. To see those topics, just click on the forum name and join in the discussion. Topics are just new conversations that you can start up if you wish to ask a question, say hi, or need to say something. Please join in the conversation and throw out an idea or two. We are a small group, so their will not be a tremendous amount of traffic, but what there is, I hope will be focused on the goal, getting together and having fun. Well, you do, Pistol. A Frosh is someone who has posted less than 10 times on this site. You are a newbie. Get over it. It's not like High School where you have to the count of five to start running, before you get a wedgie. Post more than ten times, then we'll call you a sophomore. You should be proud at this point of your mastery of this domain! Point this fact out to the Freshmen you've left behind! Now it gets challenging! Junior year starts when you hit twenty posts, and for forty posts, we'll give you the respect you deserve, along with fruit cup in the cafeteria whenever you like after 2:00pm and as long as you have a note from the office. BTW, have you bought an elevator pass yet? Beyond some rudimentary spelling skills, it's really pretty simple. If you wish to ask a question or make a point that is not related to something already on the Bulletin Board, just hit the New Topic button. A box will pop up where you can type in a subject line and the body of your message or post (just like email!) There are lot's of other things you can do, but for now, that's all you really need to know. If you are not sure what will happen, try the test forum and see how it works. Nobody will see what you are doing unless they are in the test forum too, which means, you can always hit them with "Yes, I'm just trying this out, but what are you doing here in the test forum if you are so smart, huh, Admiral?" Sorry, too late. See the post in the discussion forum. Carol Gruneberg Moore already won the prize by coming up with the correct answer: Mamie Eisenhower. It's an organ, High-Pockets! Scoop up the drool and try to keep one eye focused on the blackboard! You can add an "avatar" (picture) in the User Control Panel. There are even some you can choose from (look for the gallery at the bottom), if you don't want to make your own. By the way, the purpose of an avatar is not necessarily to show your smilling face, but really just something to make your posts easily recognizable in a long discussion. You can use anything you like, but be nice. Sorry about that, Woodie is me, Swen Larsen. In setting up this site, it makes it easier (and less dangerous) if I have one account (woodie) that has super-user/administrator privileges and can do anything on the site (including real damage!) and one account I can use where I am just like everyone else and can't get into real trouble. Well, not technically. I usually only log on with the woodie account when I have to do sitewide maintenance. Sorry if it seems kind of dumb, but it's a strategy that has saved my bacon a number of times! I don't know why I chose the name woodie. I think I had just dropped my pencil and it popped into my head. My daughter asked my this a couple of days ago and at first I said, "No, of course not, silly-willie!". Then, my good synapse fired, and I blinked for a while. Soon, I was having to re-think my entire position on the subject. Please log commentary in the discussion area. I'm still not sure. |
